Bible Student 1.1
═════════════════
Bible Student is the entire King James Version of the Bible on floppy disk
featuring:
■ Multiple overlapping windows
■ Pull down menus
■ Mouse support
■ Fast reference and search facilities
■ Fast text extraction to ASCII file or printer
■ Online context-sensitive help
■ Ability to run from a single floppy drive
Bible Student has been developed using Turbo Pascal 6.0 with Turbo Vision
from Borland International Inc. which provides the latest character-based
user interface technology.
System Requirements
═══════════════════
■ One floppy disk drive
■ 512K RAM
■ PC-DOS or MS-DOS 2.0 or later
If using a hard disk:
■ 2.5 Mb of disk space
If using a mouse:
■ Microsoft Mouse (or compatible) 6.0 or later
Files Directory
═══════════════
Files included on the original distribution disks are:
■ README.DOC This documentation file
■ BIBLESTU.EXE The main program file
■ BIBLESTU.HLP File containing context-sensitive help
■ RESPONSE.DOC User response form
■ *.BST (x 66) The Bible text files (one for each book)
■ COPYRITE.DOC Copyright notice on each disk
An additional configuration file is created by Bible Student in the
same directory as BIBLESTU.EXE when printer options are saved to disk:
■ BIBLESTU.CFG Printer configuration file
Installation
════════════
No installation is required if you are intending to run Bible Student
directly from a floppy drive.
To install onto a hard disk simply copy all of the files on each floppy disk
into the same directory, preferably one you have created specially for the
purpose. To do this:
1. Enter:
MD C:\BIBLESTU
to create a new directory.
2. Insert disk 1 and enter:
COPY A:*.* C:\BIBLESTU
to copy the files into the directory.
3. Repeat step 2. for each floppy disk.
The above assumes that you are installing from floppy drive A onto hard
drive C and want your directory to be called BIBLESTU. If you require a
different configuration simply substitute as appropriate.
Start Up
════════
To run Bible Student from a floppy drive (A say) insert disk 1 and enter:
A:BIBLESTU
To run Bible Student from a hard disk (assuming the configuration given
above) enter:
C:\BIBLESTU\BIBLESTU
NOTE: If you are using a version of DOS earlier than 3.0 you may need to
include the Bible Student directory in your PATH. (See your DOS manual.)
Operation
═════════
All of the functions of Bible Student can be accessed through the pull down
menus by using the <Alt> key together with the highlighted letter. Context-
sensitive help screens are available by using the <F1> key.
The operation of Bible Student is fairly intuitive, especially to those who
have used similar computer packages before. A more comprehensive written
manual may be made available in the future depending on the feedback
received from this initial release. Please write and let me know if you
think such a manual would be worthwhile, or if you have specific questions
about how to use Bible Student.
Additional Notes
════════════════
■ Whether you are working from a floppy drive or a hard disk I would
highly recommend that you make backup copies of the original
distribution disks before commencing work with Bible Student.
■ The Bible text used in this software was obtained from the public
domain and cannot be guaranteed free from inaccuracies. If you do
come across any mistakes in the text I would be very grateful if you
could let me know so that they can be corrected in later versions.
If you can let me know of the availability of an error-free ASCII
version of the KJV then that would be even better!
■ Bible Student is supplied to you as "freeware" i.e. there is no
charge for using this software or for passing on copies to others
providing the terms of the copyright agreement are observed. If you
paid a fee to obtain your Bible Student disks from a shareware
distributor, this was simply to compensate the distributor for his/her
costs - disks, postage and packaging, time etc. As the programmer I
receive no part of this fee whatsoever.
■ The scope to improve Bible Student is vast indeed and I have a number
of ideas about how this could be done. However, future development
will be dependent on you, the user, and your response. Even if you
cannot afford to send any money please write and let me know if you
are finding Bible Student useful and how it could be improved to suit
your requirements.
